are you talking about just the axle SHAFT! or the whole nine yards?

the shaft itself should be the same... but the axle shaft assm with backing plate varries from left to right if i recall.... (perhaps not an issue if they gave you correct side)

if it was the correct (same) side id say it would work...

(btw watch those years on your 4runner... 95/96 is the change year....)

EDIT: Wait, I'm confused, do you have a '96 4Runner or an '86 4Runner?!

ty for your help tho.the problem was i needed a bearing and seal. dealer siad next week. i needed the truck tomorrow. so thought i'd just throw in a used axle to get me thru till new bearings and seals and backing plates came in.

96 runners had 3.4, and 88 4runners have leaves 90s on had coils. its always easier to let a shop do the work.

You are looking for parts that do not exist. A 96 with a 3.0 is a mystery to me.

The rear shafts are the same 86-95 torsion bars IFS trucks.

The backing plates are different 86-89 runner, 90-95 runner, 86-95 truck.
