NEED HELP QUICK, Transmission install questions

I swapped the trans/tcase off my 90 for one off like a 94 or 95......

now the shift pattern on the tcase seems different.
the original tcase worked like this

and the new tcase only seems to give me this, and in the neutral position, the 4wd light comes on

why does the 4wd light come on when in neutral, and where is my 4hi? why is the pattern different??? The sticks seem different too, my original had a little spring mechanism, where the new one doesn't....and also there seems to be a little metal angular piece of sheet metal extending down from the shifter plate now.

Also, what is this on the back of my tcase?? It wasn't on my original, and I don't know what to plug it into (or what to plug into the upper plug too).

I have a '93 auto and mine is like this:

_____2HI
______:
____..4HI
____:
___4LO

No neutral on the transfercase shifter.

Edit: Nevermind, I see you have a 5 spd. But the pattern you show looks very similar to mine. Was there a different TC between the 5spd and autos?

ok the shift pattern isn't different, i just can't access anything other than the 4lo, N, 4hi side, it won't cross left and up to the 2hi.

also, the 4wd light comes on in N, but doesn't engage the diff when in 4hi (thats why i thought that was 2hi at first).

I thought swapping my 90 for a 95 would be a direct replace, apparently things aren't that simple. Are there shifter position sensors or something that tell it when to engage the ADD?

Electronic shift to 4WD, where did you find that t-case? I've never seen a 90-95 with that style t-case. Did the donor have a button on the side of the shifter? I'm curious

Edit: it doesn't have a 4high position because a button actuates it.

YES you are right, I realized that today. This whole tranny/tcase came from Japan, I guess they have different setup over there.

There is no J-pattern on the tcase, just the 3 linear positions 4lo, N, 2/4hi and the actual shifter stick is not threaded so I couldn't use my old knob (leading me to believe there was a specific knob for this probably with the button you speak of). In the hi position, the front driveshaft turns but the ADD isn't engaged, I suppose thats what the button does with this unit.

so what is that part on the back of the tcase? there is a plug extending out of it, and a port to plug something else in. Can I make this work for me?

Yes you could make it work, the wiring would be somthing similar with a e-locker. Two or three relays tied into the limit switches providing power to the motor. Can't really help you any more then that though, would need it right in front of me. Would need to test with a DVOM to see what wires do.
