need help to ID transmission

need help to ID transmission
going to look at a replacement trans for my 89 truck this morning. the owner says he bought it for a swap in hid 4runner but it didnt work b/c his was a V6. is there any way i can tell if it will work on my truck? any different case marking or numbers?
