It's called a center link, and yes that is your clunk noise.

I'd call that the uberbrokenstein aka fix that before you wreck yourself! That thing has got to be broken in the center of the pin, or somehow it pulled up enough from the joint to make it look like that. It just isn't right and needs serious attention. That vehicle is not safe to drive like that IMO.

I know you don't know me but do me a personal favor and replace that and your idler arm before your truck veers off the road with the wheels pointed like this \ /

That is not safe brother

Kinda of a deceiving pic as the castle nut and cotter pin are still attached.
That's gotta be it.

Do you think it's broken or pulled 1/2 way out of the joint? I know for a fact that pin isn't that long....

I'd wager that if this was a 4x4 that thing would have let go and caused a ruckus on the road unless the upper (broken) half of that pin is seized into the link really well. It's still only a matter of time...

I'm thinking it's broken inside the end of the center link and just hasn't popped out yet. Like you said it's a matter of time.

Wrapped in bicycle tube? NOOOOO WAY! We need pictures of THAT abortion fix....

Back on subject. As far as parts go, you didn't mention any brands. I've had bad luck with Masterpro, will never buy a part of theirs again due to fitment issues right out of the box. Moog and Beck Arnley make suspension parts I dig on. They fit well and work well, and cost much less than original Toyota parts (although I have nothing against them, I CAN'T afford them).

Even being cheap in this situation, a used one from a junkyard would be better. I'd check out O'reilly auto if the are near you and go for Moog parts. They aren't too expensive, they aren't too cheap, they fit properly and they are pretty solid.

on brands there are kelsey-hayes,raybestos service grade,mevotech,acdelco,autoextra,moog,beck/anley,raybestos pro grade everything i order from cheap to expensive
i usually go with beck/arnley on my other car (240sx's and civic)
autozone was $58 plus tax
i can go hunting on auto salvage too

No worries, I'm relatively cheap too I'd go with the beck arnley or moog. Neither will be that expensive and you'll know how old the part is. You will feel like a king driving down the road after you get that part in because it will drive so smooth. Don't forget to align the front end after you put it in, I bet it will be a bit out of whack I'd give the ball joints and tie rod ends a wiggle too, with THAT KIND of repair who knows what else is going on....

No problem. As stated earlier, please don't drive that thing! I don't wanna see you pushing yourself around in a little chair that you have to blow into to make it move. That thing is BUSTED and BROKEN and not safe.
