Mystery sensor

So I was replacing my valve cover gasket on my 1986 22re pickup this morning and noticed this little guy on the intake side with nothing connected to it. No dangling wires or anything looking like it was ever connected here, and I’m struggling to track it down in my service manual. I’m embarrassed to say I’ve never noticed this in the decade plus I’ve had this truck but now it’s got me all stressed. I’d appreciate any info ya’ll can help me out with. Thanks! -Nate

Looks like the temp sender for your gauge. Your gauge was working before you started this job?

I had that thought too but this sensor is the one going to the gauge... I think.

This thread may shed some light on why your 86 has that 2nd temp sender on the t-stat housing:

Your dash gauge was working?

Thanks for the explanations folks... my gauge was “working” in that the needle moved from downwards to a little lower than halfway up after a few minutes but I’ve never put much faith in its accuracy. My main concern was it was something going to the ECM.

TSW ( the temp switch ) to the tccs ecu has a different style plug and housing. It is central located and has a round body that encloses it.

Here are some kind of crappy photos, to the rear is TSW signal for tccs ECU, the front is the AC cut off switch.

ignore the grungy old engine here.. At the far bottom right is the AC temp switch wire. This runs between location 3&4 in the wiring diagram layout.. (,think that is in jnky's thread?)

That's the temperature switch (TSW signal at the ECU) for the fuel pressure regulator vsv (FPU at the ECU)..
The AC switch looks like the guage sender, but it's only on off not a resistance curve.
