The mysterious intake side

The mysterious intake side
In the three months I've had this truck I have had the right (exhaust) side of the engine compartment torn to pieces and put back as well as the front. However, the intake is calling my name in a sweet sweet voice manifested in intermittent leaks, retard injectors, and an intermittent cylinder.
How difficult is an intake-side rebuild? I would like to replace all those little hoses and put some fresh gaskets on everything. Also, is there some sort of kit I can get that has all the required hoses and gaskets, or should I just buy them separately?

You can get the intake gasket set from any decent autoparts store. But the hoses you may have to go to the dealer, OR take them up to the parts store and see if they have the same sizes.
You may as well order the injector seals and o-rings while you are at it.
I have had mine apart a few times. The difficulty comes in when sone of the bolts are frozen or hard to get to.

Yeah, just pay attention to the hoses and where they go.
I normally pull the plenum apart to make the lower part more accessible. You can also get to the injectors this way. Careful when you take loose the fuel line banjo bolt, there is a washer there that needs to be kept. It is really easy to lose.

it'll usually take 1/2 hour to get to the lower plenum if you're careful. hardest part about removing the lower half is getting all the junk out of the way, in fact, the wiring harness runs through the middle of it and i think you have to disconnect a bunch of things. i was able to get a new gasket in mine without removing the manifold from the engine bay, though.

If you're going to redo the intake (I did mine a few months ago) REPLACE THE FUEL FILTER. You'll understand why when you get there. Also, take time the clean the throttle body (and adjust the TPS), plenum, and EGR plumbing. If you have time, send out your injectors to have them ultra-sonically cleaned. I sent mine out and it made a night and day difference. The job is really easy, just time consuming.
