My timing does not advance!

Alright so I got a '86 22RE that's all truggified out, stripped down wiring harness, etc.

This is driving me nuts, my timing WILL NOT advance, in fact it retards. Down at the lower RPMs, it kinda jumps around, but give it some throttle and higher RPMs, and it retards like 10 degrees and stays steady there! What could possibly be causing this?

My knock sensor isn't even hooked up, and my T and E1 jumpers are not connected. I've also checked my TPS, which is in spec. Funny thing about that though, if I disconnect it while running it doesn't seem to make a difference, but like I said everything is in spec, and I checked all the wiring. Guess that's sorta normal?

I would hook up your knock sensor and any other efi stuff that is not plugged in and see if it helps. If the ecu doesn't get the information it wants it defaults to open loop in order to keep the engine running.

Hook up the 02 sensor and the knock sensor, if there not already, that could be causing your problems.

Thanks for the suggestions, I did those and no difference.

But I did get it figured out. Turns out my igniter was shot. Purrs like a kitten now
