I would not even worry about the cover if it was me

I would just make sure the timing was dead nuts on before I went forward

i'm a bit odd so I would even go as far as starting the engine for 5 seconds to make sure it still runs. you want to have plenty of rags handy though
it will get messy with oil slinging everywhere.

I got the chain on along with tensioner and guides. Is the driver side suppose to have some slack in it?

the slack will be taken up on the other side by the tensioner, rotate the engine over a couple times & if the marks are still right your "on the money". If not your a tooth off & you will have put the slop on the other side

I did rotate it and my links lined up with the notches. So hopefully I'm good. I ordered some toyota fipg and the junk isn't here so I might just get some rtv for the head to timing cover. Where do I put that stuff? Do I apply it just under the head gasket or on top also.

I have not ever had a reason to do a 22r so i'm not sure of the exact process on putting the cover back on. I work on marine engines mostly. I would say search the web & find out what others have done with theirs

good luck
