my rebuilt engine was rebuilt by gorillas

some sort of large primate anyway..

First, the headgasket blew after about 50k miles.

Then there was the headbolt washers under the lifters....

Now, I have 4 of 12 intake bolt holes that are stripped. What can I do about that? Can find a larger bolt and tap the hole?

bleh. I need to get this thing back together and these odd things have become frustrating. I can only imagine what they did to the bottom side of the engine..

This is a 94 4runner 3.0 btw

Helicoil in the headbolt hole, but I'm not sure that will hold based on the history of the 3VZE.

That being said, I have a block for sale.

well, it's not a headbolt hole, it's an intake bolt hole, if that matters.

I'll check into the helicoil, but I really need a way I can fix it in my own, that's why I was thinking of tapping it. I do have a tig welder, maybe I'll just weld the intake to the heads

Sorry - missed that it was intake holes. You should be OK with helicoils in there.

Use some stud-tite M8 x 45mm they fit perfectly on both side of the stud but they kind of short, try to fine a long one cause those hole tend to be deep, if you got the guts to use a longer studs and hammer it down you can do that also just don't hit it to hard or you can premature the HG. My bolts that hold the camshaft has also strip out its thread and I have to use some perma-poxy bondo with a studs and hammer it down but I hope that it will hold there cause it is not giving me the correct torq. it post to be on cause it is giving me a hard time adjusting the clearance for the shim, so good luck on yours, and oh torq. the intake bolts to 13 lbs. only and in order.

Heli-coil help, I got a set for it, only use one time and is perfect for the intake bolts ( if you got that helicoil in you don't have to use the stud to go in, you can use your intake bolts), if you want it, it will cost you $20.00 + S/H.

Cool, I stopped at Napa for the helicoil kit this morning and they were out so I have to go to another store over lunch. This is really going to save me I think, when that bolt stripped I thought I was screwed. I also work on old engines a lot so I'm sure I'll use the technique again

Honestly I don't know... It was in when we bought it. I was skeptical at first that it was even a rebuild, but it had a "remanufactured" plate on it. I guess I found out the hard way that it was, just not very well.

I'm still puzzled by the headbolt washers unde the lifters. After I got hte camshafts back in thee clearances were good too... so the washers were really not doing any good.

I always liked Timsert's over helicoils myself. Used these a bunch on motor cycle rebuilds especially older bike timing chain tensioners stripping out of the aluminum.
