my new rig
just purchased a 94 4runner this is my first toyota. she has 181k on her and still seems to run strong just very slow wish i could help it out just a little. but when i got her she was missing a front bumper so i got one made up for 150 and the starter was going out so i fixed that, long story but an idiot move caused me to have to replace the whole starter. but overall im happy next i was thinking maybe exhaust and isr just wanna try and improve mileage and get a little extra power then its bj spacers and cruiser coils.

Nice 4Runner, your going to find that the 3.0 is very slow, some on here have blocked off the egr and have noticed a power increase and better gas mileage, but that`s up to you if you want to do it or not. You can also regear and that will help also especially is your 4Runner is an automatic.

i would agree you paid a lil much, just did the math and assuming hes charging you 7% interest, you basically paid ~3000 for the truck and ~500 in interest
nice truck either way, dont wheel it and destroy your only means of transportation

I just got a 97 4runner with the 3.4. Before I did anything my first tank got 13 mpg. It has a K&N so I cleaned that, cleaned the TB and IAC, I also inflated the tires (they were at like 26 psi). When I filled up yesterday I got 17 mpg. Some other things that help that I haven't done yet are to change all fluids, plus put in new plugs and wires. You might also want to check your timing. Assuming you have the 14.8 gallon tank and you ran it dry on 165 miles, you're getting a little over 11 mpg. Even the 3.0 should get a lot closer to 20. Those things are easy to do and can make a big difference. You might also ask the PO for any maintenance records he has. Sweet ride and good luck.

A 3VZE 5 speed, even with 4.10's should get at least 200 miles to the tank, without proper calculation or whatever. Actually, now that I think of it, my old 95 with an auto and 4.56's with 31's from the factory only got about 13.5 mpg and it was in great shape.

But then again it has
-less miles and a front bumper. But nice find they last forever man all I got to say. There good enough vehicles to drop a new engine in it when the 3.0 goes bad eventually like all engines. Not saying its gnna be very soon, but If u take care of it with regular maintenance she'll go atleast 70K-100K more miles.

165 is LOW, I get atleast 240 Miles depending on how I drive I can get 280 Miles. My Advice, Pull the plugs and if they look bad replace them, and if the ignition wires look worn replace them as well. Then Buy some injector cleaner. And see if that helps. Is the check engine light on?

Hey kzink, straight pipe that bad boy! I have a 95' and that is the last year you can do it on being that there are no sensors in the catalytic converter. It gave me a lil' increase in throttle response, definately more torque, and best of all - loud, low and throaty sound! Mate that with a 40 series FlowMaster and you'll be in business I promise. The hard part is if you don't weld yourself, finding a shop that will do it, out of 10 here in southern Oregon, only one guy would but he has a beautiful 93 pick-up so he was more than abliged
