My Custom Bed

Yep, been working on this for awhile now, and its actually almost done, but here is pic from last week, in its earlier stages. I have the bed pretty much together now, so i'll get a picture up soon.

------edit--------
Yeah, have the tail light situation figured out for now, just going to use the stock lights and jerry rig them just so they work, and once the season come back, i'm going to get some LEDs.

secondly, i'm going with what was option 1 for the tail light layout.

I vote for option 3... but arrange them yellow on top, then white in middle and red on bottom... same as stock yota lights...

It would be killer if you could graft the stock 3rd gen lights into it!

I have always liked them

and just 'TOYOTA' not the gay emblem.

why not 'dual' red taillights? one for tail/brake, one for tail/blinker? I don't think blinkers have to be amber.

speedwaymotors.com has some cool taillights (either flushmount or 'stalked')

YAY, progress

Hey, thanks guys for all your input, but here is a pic from last weeks progress.... Yeah, you all know how life goes, its crazy, hopefully i can get the tailgate done and on tomorrow, and i've found some one who can get me sheet metal as well, so thats pretty sweet. Yeah, i didn't even think about the tail light arrangement, as far as it looking like the stock taillights. On that, making a bed kinda throws out the whole stock as, so does bobbing it. I think i'm going to have something like 10 or 12 inches shorter, don't remember exactly. Also, i'm using LED lights, cause i like em, and rate now its between 1, 2, and 3. Number 5 was going to be my choice before i even made the other options but the more i look at, the less appealing it is. Well thats not true, i just can't figure out a place to put the reverse light, or to have it oval or circle, ether way it looks funny. Anyways, this is what i have so far.

Updates....

well, things are real slow, life is crazy, not enough time in a day you guys know. Well i have been doing a crap ton of research, and i'm also planning on de-rusting the frame, (i know lots of work) and doing some sort of bedliner to all the bed. That said, i was going to go with the synthetic lumber for the bed, but i got a hold of a friend and he is getting me some sheet metal. I'm using 20 gauge sheet metal, should work fine, not putting anything to heavy real in it, probably just people. Ok, so now on to the dilemmas. First off, i was going to go with option number two, but i can't seem to find any clear oval taillights, well aside from the really ugly incandescent one. So, i might be stuck with number one, which i also like. Ok, lastly, i'm going to go overboard with the bedliner, but oh well, i like it. I always thought the bedliner stuff adhered to metal, but that doesn't seem to be the case, and i really don't want to primer underneath it, i dunno, just doesn't seem like its a good idea. Anyways, i might have found a solution, epoxy bedliner, and i like epoxy, so this seems like a win win, anyways, i'm getting it, so we'll see how it goes, granted that won't be for awhile. Oh yeah, might have the tailgate on tonight, so i'll have more picture soon. (sorry for being so it long)

I like #3 but, what about putting them at an angle, I've seen that before and it looked pretty good.

actually, thats a kinda cool idea, having them at an angle, i'll have to mess around with that. Also, this just kind of accrued to me, but do you guys this 20 gauge sheet metal will be to thin, if it is, the thickest i really want to go is 18 gauge.

I like 1 then 3. I'd definately get those common lenses but use the assemblies that have LED lights instead of bulbs. They will last longer and are a lot brighter.

Yeah, custom flat bed, with.... wood

well, wow, did plans change, the layout changed, the floor material changed, yeah, i'm still happy, and i definitely like it still, but its way different than original plans. But here is the progress, and this weekend i should have it preped, bedlinered, and have the wood all bolted in....yes i said wood.
