My 4Runner brakes aren't very good

I have a 1989, 1st generation 4Runner with the 22re and 5 speed. I like it in every way except it doesn't stop like I think it should. I had an 85 4wd extended cab p/u with a similar powertrain, plus a winch and bumper and a camper shell. It stoppped fine.

I have a firm pedal and no leaks. It is impossible to lock them up. I don't believe this model runner has anti-locks; does it? Even if it does, it should stop better than it does. I have bled the brakes; adjusted the back brakes. I haven't changed the fluid.

Is this a 4Runner characteristic on the 1st generations? Could it be the proportioning valve? Help me out here guys. Thanks

I recently saw a post on one of these boards about the V6 , dual-stage brake booster being a direct bolt-in upgrade for older 4Runners. Some one please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you can snag a booster from a yard and improve your braking.

You need to re-surface your rotors...they are warped. If they can't re-surface them, you'll have to get new rotors.
