What year and engine size do you have? Also, any check engine light?

Sounds like maybe a stuck EGR valve or sticking cold start injector. does it want to stall when sitting at an idle when you are stopped?

yeah sounds mainly like your EGR valave is sticking. It is bolted to the pass side of the intake manifold. i.e. the side with out the intake tube and throttle body. Try tapping on it with a small hammer or other hard object. This may release the valve and it will hopefully close up completely. It sounds like you are running righ. The EGR feeds unburnt fuel vapors and exhaust gasses back into the intake. If it is stuck open, it is feeding the excess unburnt fuel vapors causing the engine to run rich. It will run like crap at lower RPM's and smooth out at higher RPM's. i.e. how your truck smooths out above 3K. Try that out.

It will eventually need replaced if it is sticking.
