That's the starting bid, not sure where it will end. A 3.4 for that price would be sweet.

Hey Frank my yota is stock...I have read a post where a guy took off his EGR and covered the opening in the plenum and it runs smoother her says.I would like to know if this will cause your check engine light to come on if I do this?

It's about the same, maybe a little better, but more power.

It will cause the CEL to come on. Also, it will raise NOX emissions. I wouldn't personally do this. I care about my impact on the environment to the extent that the principle is enough to discourage me if not the law. What you decide to do is up to you.

I suppose if someone could prove an adequate increase in efficiency from blocking off the EGR offsets unburned hydrocarbons and displaces enough petroleum a defensible argument could be put forth but I haven't seen that yet.

Anyway, I digress. Back to the post amount the engine, there is definitely something to be said for buying a used engine from a local source where you can deal with a real live human being in the US face to face if you have a problem with it.

I agree with this, but only to an extent. I wouldn't tear this motor apart to put performance parts in, but I had to rebuild the top end on mine anyways so I had Crower grind my cams and did some gasket matched porting in the heads. Besides a good muffler, I wouldn't do anything else. It's the cam profile that Toyota SHOULD have had in there all along. Long story short - if you have to take the heads off, you might as well get new cams in there (only around $175) for a regrind from Crower or you can get Weasy's. Install them yourself.
