Missing vacuum cap

Would somebody kindly tell me what this vacuum port is called. I saw a similar engine in a YouTube video and this port is supposed to have a little black cap on it, but mine doesn't. Should it have a cap? Is this something I should take care of?

Thanks for the help.

Mike

Is the white port in the center of the photo supposed to have a black cap? Is this important?

Looks like the bimetal switching valve for the EGR? You should be fine without the cap. But to keep grime and dust out, pick up some vacuum caps from a parts store for real cheap. 3/4" to 1" should do
