Missing hose causing misfire.

I have been searching for an answer the past week without answer and now the running condition is getting worse.

Its an '89 4x4 pickup with 22re engine and 5 spd. Experiencing a misfire after warm up and during idle. It was not so bad but has slowly gotten worse. I was taking a look around and I can hear what I think is a vacuum leak. Saw that there was this valve or purge on the fuel rail, has three hoses coming off of it. I noticed it was sucking air so i plugged it up and I can still hear a leak but can not see the culprit anywhere. Was hoping someone could tell me what this is and what it's suppose to connect to.

I already checked compression, plugs, replaced cap rotor and wire. I am hoping this is it.

Thank you. Jared

That port is not used on the mt's. If I remember correctly it is used on auto trucks.

intake gasket leaking?
throttlebody gasket leaking?
check all that stuff. are you pulling any codes?
if so: code says youre running lean, but it's actually dumping raw fuel out the exhaust? then you have unmetered airflow through the engine that the o2 sensor is picking up on.

I am not pulling any codes. I tried squirting some carb cleaner around the gasket areas but I didn't have any change to the idle speed. I will try searching for a leak again. Any other suggestions on finding a leak other than the carb cleaner technique?

Are you saying you still hear a leak?

Use an UNLIT propane/MAPP gas torch to check where a leak is. Run it around ALL hoses (including VSVs) & it will idle up slightly when you find the leak.

Yes, I am still hearing the leak. it sounds like is comig from somewhere behind and underneth the intake/head area. I am starting to think its a blown gasket or warped head. I'll hope for the best until I confirm it. Thanks for the tips. I'll let you know what I find.

We found the vaccum leake. It was on the back side of the intake manifold. Whoever work on the truck last was a real novice and wrinkles the gasket or something. Also looks like they tried to use a liquid gasket.
