That is an odd one with that valve cover baffle. I do not have any pictures of the inside of my valve covers, so I can't tell you how much is mising, but it sure looks like some of the sheetmetal is gone. I would lean towards getting a valve cover from a boneyard, they should be pretty cheap.

I cannot tell what piece is missing from your upper timing belt cover. Here is a pic of mine installed on the motor. It looks like yours is all there in the picture? But, in general, the covers do not seal up tight, like an oil pan or anything. They are there to keep the majority of the dirt and water off of the belt, which extends the bearings and belt life.

Hey Guys,

Another Update and a few more questions.
We have the rear seal in, oil pump checked good, and we are in the process and building back up. Oil Pump is on. I did pick up an Oil Cooler, Un-cracked Upper Timing Cover, and a new Drivers Side Valve Cover on E-Bay!!! Yay

So tonight I went to put the Windage Plate, Oil Pickup tube, and Oil Pan back on....but the Engine Gasket kit I ordered did not come with an oil pickup tube gasket. The old gasket seems hard and even has a slight crack in it.
2 questions:
1. Is the pickup tube gasket a dealer item? If Anyone else has order the Engine Gasket kit before... is there anything else that did not come with their kit? (That would save me time later on)
2. What type of sealant is recommended for the block ports? Im referring to the oil/coolant plugs and the plug on the oil pump? I dont see recommendations in the FSM on what to seal these with. Most of them had FIPG on them when I took them apart.
Thanks!!!

And good deal on the Remove/Check/Clean/Refresh/Pretty Paint Deal> I think its going to look sweet and one of akind. Glad to see your sticking OEM Toyota for the most part. I had a comment on the broke valve cover baffle. Since you measured the engines specs and found it was bored once upon a time. That valve cover was prob removed in part of the engine rebuild (again once upon a time) and some bright "fellow" thought it would be better to break a piece of the baffle so the oil will flow down better through the fill cap. <-- Atleast thats what it appears to me. ITs not likely at all that it broke and got ground up in the engine. That would have caused major engine failure.

Nice attention to detail! It's looking sweet. Makes me want to get off my dead ass and get crackin' on my son's '88 4Runner. Of course, we are waiting on a lot of parts...soon, very soon.
