Fuel mileage and a questions about it?
So completed a trip today from Springfield to Bend and back, via Mckenzie pass (5200+ ft). 332k+ on the odometer, 89 longbed 22RE 5 spd, but only just 5k on this motor. 129 miles one way, plus a short trip to the store there, I figure 263 miles. burned 6.3 gallons going, and 3 on the way back... is that right? At that rate, I get 29 or so miles to the gallon average for the trip. It is alot of downhill on the way back, and I do 55-62 out on the road. Did I mess my math up? I'd be suprised if I get 24 mpg, this is a record for this little pickup. Couple 3rd gears climbs at about 40, just to not work her too hard.
And by the way guys, been lurking here for a while now... Excellent place to figure stuff out. Good peoples, too. Has become my go-to place when I hear a wierd noise, or get bored. So... HI! I'll have pictures here at some point, I'm just lazy with a camera.

No, filled twice. Full when I left Springfield, filled up when I left Bend, 6.3 gallons there, and right about 3 when I got home. That where I messed it up? My fuel gauge sender is kaput, its in the works, so I fill up when it goes nutty around 1/2 to 3/4 tank. Don't like having no gauge.

i dont know im up at 6200-7000 ft all the time and i get about 18 its a 22r with 31s and stock gearing, 5 spd-but if you were just coasting most of the way back then that sounds about right

Yeah, I was "coasting" most of the way back. Didn't take alot of throttle to start speeding up. Tires 235/75-15, (stock, right?) Went off odometer miles, had GPS, but its old and not enough memory to do the whole trip.. Was just wierd, 1/2 the gas to get back as it took going. And it still pulled like crazy goin up. Ah well. One more reason to love it. It's ugly, and it gets good mileage. Downhill, at least.
