metering device (rich and lean) engine code?

Been driving my yota around a bit and got an engine light. The motor runs good, but I notice that when the motor is cold, is sputters real bad as i'm giving it gas and bogs down. I pull over, let the truck warm up a bit and then continue on my way and it runs good, but I got 2 engine codes- metering device rich and metering device lean. What is the cause of these and do you think they are the reason for the sluggish motor when cold? Sorry for the long post. Thanks!

lol, sounds like your VAFM is confused-

OK, the VAFM is the thing on top of your air filter box that has a plug on the side of it thats about 2 inches long - take the tubes off of that and look in your VAFM, there is a little door/flap in there. you should be able to easily push it open - might need a screwdriver to reach - see if yours opens freely

I would say that is the first thing to check - hopefully yours works because those are pricey to replace.
