MegaSquirt Question
I have a 1986 Truck that originally was a 22RET turbo, the turbo has been removed. I am getting ready to rebuild the engine and I want to remove the AFM and bump up the cam, valve size, compression to more than what the stock ECU will handle. Will the megasquirt allow me to do that with the stock EFI unit?
I am not interested in putting a turbo back on the truck.

ive been looking at megasquirt too and what i gather is that if its set up good it can contol ignition better than stock and fire injectors individual instead of all at once and use mass air sensor, tps and wideband o2 instead of the setup toyota uses. and its tunable too so can compensate for more mods and can even be setup control idle speed. you might check out diyautotune catalog
from reading around, the stock ecu would probably handle most mods like your talking about though too since its programmed for around 6-7 psi boost / 140hp

Assembling a Megasquirt will be a great learning experience if you go that route - I keep tossing it around in my head for my 7MGE.
FWIW, about 10 years ago I heavily built a 22RE and the stock ECU did fine with it. The build was something like this: bored .080" over, 10.5:1 forged AL pistons, big valves, Crane (I think?) cam, minor port and polish through the entire induction system to smooth out the airflow, balanced/blueprinted/polished bottom end, adj oil press relief, twin row timing chain and a few other minor tweaks. The AFM isn't as much of a restriction as everyone thinks, unless you're really trying to wring every last pony out of it. I remember embarrassing an Audi A4 stoplight to stoplight on 32's with 4.88 gears (he started to catch up and pull on me over 60-70mph)
