Hey Matt I've gone my 200+ miles for the breakin of the Aussie and am about to change the fluid. I'm pretty well confused as to what weight to put in there since the manual says to use what weight came in the truck from the factory, that was 20+ years ago. I typed "Aussie" into the search and holy smokes there are a bunch of threads, most dealing with "should I or shouldn't I?". Well I already "did" so they didn't help much. I'm still getting some noise with the 75w90 synthetic I've got in there and sometimes it dang near refuses to unlock in a tight turn and I can still hear it ratcheting when it does. All the spacing and specs are within tolerance although they're on the tight side of tolerance.

1) Since you've run one for a while what weight synthetic do you recommend?

2) Will a heavier weight help this thing unlock and shush?


Hate to bother you with this but you review is what convinced me to get one.


Oh and how are those 4.56's treating you?

Hey, I might not be Matt but I can tell you what I did. I put the aussie in last Friday and broke it in with valvoline 85w140. When 200 miles rolled around I put some fresh 85w140 valvoline synthetic blend in. It was very loud around turns and was more prone to bucking in turns. I drained the diff and installed regular valvoline 85w140 and put the synthetic blend in the front. The noise and bucking went away and I couldnt be more pleased with the locker. Hope this helps.

 

I may try the 140 regular because I'm about ready to yank mine out and spool it. My LockRight was never this loud, clanky, and unpredictable. It feels like it's going to come apart. Everything was within spec as well.

 

Regular 85w-140? I'll give it a shot. This thing is driving me nuts.

 

it will get better. i had to email ZUK and make sure it wasn't coming apart, but now i am used to it is no problemo even in the rain, but they kick butt in the mud. i run 75\90 synthetic.
