Marlin Crawler Shift Lever Socket Issue

Marlin Crawler Shift Lever Socket Issue
I recently tried to replace the shift lever socket in my '89 Pickup 4 spd with the Martin Crawler piece. I did everything properly (I believe), but it would pop out of first. I did not have this problem before the installation though, so I readjusted the piece and tried again. However it continued to pop out so I took out the piece and am currently going without any shift lever.
Any help with what's going on, because it seems to go smoothly for everyone else.

You have a 4-speed in an 89 pickup? What transmission do you have??? Are you sure you got the right shifter seat?
A little more info on your truck, please. Engine? 2/4 wheel drive? Transmission model?

sounds like a rwd truck, and yes, it's pretty straightforward to replace the shifter socket, as long as it's aligned straight they pop in and should work good. So it doesn't pop out of 1st now that you removed it?

I believe that option was phased out after the 90 model year.
OP, you most likely need one of these..

Most likely the truck is a 2wd 22r. They had the 4 speeds.

Ah, thanks for that. I thought all the 89's (including the 22r's) had 5-speeds.
