Putting the 4.7 gearset into your existing case is the least amount of downtime...no cutting the tunnel or driveshaft mods. As you noticed now that you have changed the whole 'personality' of your rig. So now you're adding the 488's and lockers?....front and rear? That will keep you busy for the whole weekend.

ps---thanks for updating the old thread.

Yup! Front and rear lock rights with 4.88s going in! I bought a set of used third members with 4.88s a few months back. The front already has a lockright, which was setup by a professional shop. I installed a lockright into the rear yesterday. Hopefully all is fine with them both! I have to drop the old ones and bolt up the new ones sometime this weekend.

I already have 5.29 gears in front and rear diffs with a locker in the rear and a detroit trutrac in the front. I have 35 inch tires too. It performed well this past weekend in the rocks. Here is the link to the pictures

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f100...4-09-a-184609/

Nothing crazy of course still IFS and I dont have a lot of rock experience. My biggest issue was not geared low enough. Traction was no problem. hence the reason for the thread resurection. I guess my biggest concern then would be if I get stuck and need to reverse out (like in the video in posted link) that the 4.7 gears will make it impossible to do anything. I guess in that case I could just swallow my pride and have somone pull me out. Hopefully not a jeep

this thread was a great read, thank you to the searcher who resurrected it. I have no need for any of it right now, but i still enjoy gaining the knowledge of this topic and being able to help those who need it.

toyNG it will maybe take you 2 hours to get the rear diff in and then the front is a little more tricky and will take a little bit longer, but you should be fine. While you have the front diff out go ahead and mod the front diff where the CVs bolt up to make them quick change like BLKNBLU was saying in your other thread.

Good Luck!

Both of his differentials are already set-up, all he needs to do is get the old ones out and throw the new ones in his truck.

Never mind scratch that. Its ifs so yeah it will be much trickier. It took me about 3 hours maybe 4 to get my front diff out and apart.

Great read!! I am planning on having 4.88's installed next week and my runner is an auto, should I go deeper? Not planning on going any bigger than 31's. Does this require different front and rear diff or is it just a matter of installing the gears in my diffs?
