Manual Hubs Installed But CVs Still Move.

K so I installed manual hubs but the passenger side CV joint still spins if both are locked. The driver side doesn't move, stays stationary. I originally had ADD and I haven't cut or removed any of the vacuum hoses what so ever. Figured it'd be best to get some advice from here and then go forward with it. I'm going to be putting in 4.88s and new CV joints soon but the 4.88s are also off a ADD vehicle. Any ideas? I'd like the CVs to be stationary when I put the Lockers in as well.

Thanks,
Mak92-4RnR

Your manual hubs lock the tire to the axle regardless of what your diff is doing.

If your axles are not turning with manual hubs locked in your hubs are busted or installed improperly.

Hmm I got the thing mixed up. When they are UNLOCKED, which is 2wd. The driver side is stationary. but the passenger side still moves... why is that? Also, The driver side also makes a binding noise when unlocked... but when its LOCKED this noise goes away. any ideas?

Sounds like you installed them incorrectly, or backwards. And/or someone previously rebuilt them wrong. In the unlocked position, the axle should not be engaged to the spindle.

I took them apart, cleaned, greased, and reassembled. even followed a guide on it and made sure I did everything right... Should I only pull off the passenger side since thats the only one that moves still? or should I pull both? what could be causing the driver side to make a binding noise?

Pull the pass side back apart and see if you can figure out what you did wrong, or what part is broken.

Common problems are installing big spring upside down and too much grease.

I got several tech articles on it.

alrighty, I'll do that. But about the driver side... Could the binding noise be happening because they need to be replaced? they are the original CV joints, and I've owned the truck for 4 years. they've been torn since my purchase.

my passenger hub didn't have enough grease in it...spread some more in it..and it worked fine.

i couldn't get mine to engage on the pass. side...that's why i took mine back apart.

have you read the tech articles about dealing with the ADD stuff????
