manual to auto cab swap
Hi everybody new member here .
I recently purchased a 1992 22re 5spd . 4x4 standard cab
It is a Texas truck that was rolled on it's side damaging the cab and left side. The frame and the rest of the truck were in pretty good shape so the P.O. swapped out the standard cab for one from an automatic .
My problem is that the ignition switch won't turn over the starter it will provide ignition though as I've jumpered the starter and fuel pump and it will offer to start .
I'm thinking that there is something missing in the wiring between the two cab styles .
I checked the clutch switch there were no wires going to it but there probably wouldn't be anyway since its an automatic cab .
I thought it might be the park neutral safety switch that isn't being satisfied I could jumper it if i could find it, but I don't know where to look for it .
I would think it would bee on the firewall or under the floor but I didn't see anything loose
The wiring diagrams I've looked at show a starer relay but I haven't been able to find it it doesn't seem to be in the relay box .
Can anybody tell me where the starter relay is located ?
Has anybody done a cab swap like this or have any ideas ?
Sorry for being long winded
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks Bob

Welcome to Yota Tech!!
it sure sounds like you have a big mess.
Has this truck ever run since the swap????
***That has to be the starting point!!
Do you have any idea just what was done was the auto harness used.
Was just the bare cab swapped or was the whole cab harness used and what year*** is the cab from???? .
this is just like doing a swap you need to merge the two wiring harnesses
Hang in there we will get it figured

Hi wyoming9 thanks for replying i had to ask some questions before i could answer yours .
Yes the truck has run since the swap .
The key will provide ignition but turn the starter or turn on the fuel pump .
I'm the 3rd owner the guy I bought it from didn't do the swap he bought it from a guy that used to work for him . The guy I bought it from said he used to hot wire the fuel pump and jumpered the strater to get it running he and his daughter used to drive it around their fields while he was trying to teach her to drive a standard .( (hope she didnt grind the gears to much) They couldn't it to run off the key though. I guess the reason the first owner sold it after the swap was because he couldn't get it running either. I took a gamble on it because I'm an electrician by trade and thought I'd be able to get it running .
The auto cab has its original harness the chassis and engine have theirs .
This is about all i can tell you about it right now i've only had it a couple of weeks and haven't had much time to work on it because of the weather .

All I can say is get your hands on a copy of the Electrical wire diagrams (EWD) for the year truck you have.
from what your saying it sounds like the start side of the ignition switch is not working for some reason.
It could be in the switch
wiring just not hooked up.
Now if the harness is there for the auto trans It could be something as simple as the neutral safety switch being open causing the problems.
One step at a time.
Don`t make me have to come up there and help in person i might not want to leave!!
