Maiden Voyage
Hey guys, tomorrow I embark on a 6-hour drive in my Runner. It will be the first time to drive it....out of town lol. I run 31-10.5's and the speedo in corrected to them. I have the 3.0 and an auto tranny. When I cruise at 65 miles per hour I am running at 2750 rpm. When at 70 miles per hour I'm on 3000 rpm. First off, does this sound right? Secondly, what speed would be a good idea for gas mileage? 65 or 70? Thanks. BTW, right now I'm getting 13.8 mpg in town, but I just adjusted the timing and lost my intake silencer. Hopefully that helps.

Pretty sure the computer is programmed to give maximum efficiency at 55 mph (thus better highway than city mileage). The closer to 55 the better, so I would go with 65 instead of 70.

Mine stock tach's 3K Rpm at 70 so sounds like your right on the money with gears/tires , the lower rpm in relation to Highway is the best mileage so closer to 55-60 the better 
.
Do like one of my buddies does , he has 2 sets of tires , changes them for long runs and keeps the mudders in the back hehe !!!!

70mph@3000rpm is exactly what i have. as for the mpg, i have 2 sets of tires, with BFG A/T i got 15.8, with Bridgestone Dueler M/T i got 15. regular daily driving, mixed hwy and local.
every car has her own sweet spot on fuel consumption, you just need to find it. but most of them were designed for around 65mph. higher than that you are gonna burn more gas than you can imagine. one of the fishing boats i know pretty well in san diego, it burns 20gal disel per hour when cruising at 11kts, when it goes 15kts, the gph jumps to 40.

Took my tools, flashlights, I was prepared for anything. I thought....About an hour into the drive my AC stopped blowing cold. I haven't owned this truck very long but I have not known it to leak. I turned off my AC (ha ha) and drove it into the next town. I stopped at a NAPA and bought a refill kit with pressure gauge. I plugged it up and it showed low. I put a can in and the pressure went up and it got cold. Then it went back down to 0 pressure. Dam. 
So I stood there for a while wondering what was the deal. When suddenly I was startled by a very loud squeeling noise and smoke billowing from the front of my engine. I ran as quickly as I could and turned it off. I turned the AC off and had my brother start the truck while I watched. SAme thing. Turns out the bearing on my compressor seized. Cause: pulley clutch stuck. So I drove all the way there and back with no AC. 12 hours round trip. Apart from that she performed better than expected. I burnt 2 full tanks of gas at 65 MPH and got 18.25 MPG there and 19.55 on the way back. Only difference between the two was on the way back I disconnected the EGR vacuum line. Seemed to help all around. I was impressed I don't even have manual hubs. Must've been that yellow hose LOL.

that happened to me once when i stole a car in huntsville, after i broke out of jail, and i be if the a\c didn't give up the ghost. naadomail, what part of texas you in?

Ha ha, at 65 you just get used to everyone flying by you. On the up side you don't have to cuss that guy that is going too slow and holding you up. IT'S YOU!!!
