Lumpy idle question
Here is my problem, I am trying to hunt down my lumpy idle. I cleaned and adjusted to spec the TB and TPS. New Rotor, Cap, plugs, and wires. New air filter, basicly a complete tune-up. Plus intake mod with no apparent leaks (idle was same before intake)
When I had the TB off I noticed that the knock sensor wasn't hooked up so I hooked it up.
I went to check the timing and when I jumper the wires there is no difference in the timing however the timing is waayy off so I bring it as close to 10deg as I can (can't quite get it to 10). Then I run the engine and it seems alright but I can still feel the lump (I haven't gone for a ride yet so I don't know if the idle will fall to 450 still).
The fact that i run out of adjustment on the dist is bothering me though. So I try to check the codes, nothing comes up, I pull the EFI fuse and check and nothing comes up (don't know if the EFI fuse being out would trigger anything anyways but worth a shot) Here's the thing with the Knock sensor not connected shouldn't the eng light have come on? I have never in the 3 months that I've owned it seen the eng light (not sure what that means though)
Does anyone know anything about what I'm fighting here?

Seems like if you ran out of adjustment on the dist. then it could be off one tooth. Put the engine on TDC 0* and pull the dist. cap and check and see if the rotor is pointing towards #1 spark plug wire.

Well here is what happened so far.
After a yummy christmas dinner I went with my Dad for a test run, we went for about 35 mins.
When I first started the truck it took it a while to catch and I let it warm up. About 3 mins later we got in the truck and I turned it off and tried to see if the eng light would come on at all, it didn't. I tried to start it and it wouldn't catch at all now, so I figured it must be the timing out of wack after I changed it yesterday, I changed the distributer back to the previous position and it started fine.
While we were driving I noticed that even with the engine nice and warm it was still idling at 1500rpm and the throttle felt like it was lugging. After driving for another 20 mins the idle came down to 1000 and pretty much stayed there. Would this have anything to do with the ECU trying to adapt to now getting a signal from the knock sensor?
I guess my next step is to figure out why I have no eng light. Do I have to take the whole dash appart to get at it? Can you change that bulb? I am assuming that there is a direct wire from the ECU to the check engine light, anyone know which pin it is on the harness?
Man I hate having to put a bunch of cash on my credit card just not my style. My fault though I'm busted for the next few weeks cause I had to pay $800 in speeding tickets last week .
