Temporarily blocked off the EGR and hesitation still exists. Going to check for CELs...light is not on tho. But I understrand that CEL can still exist.

I'm having the same rough idle, sluggish acceleration until all of a sudden the truck just comes alive. I have a '93 PU with 4 cyl. . I want to change the fuel filter next but it looks like quite a project. Looks like no room for large hands unless I remove some other components first. Does anyone have any knowledge of changing the fuel filters?

Update: Tested O2 sensor per FSM and the voltage was way out of spec. Ordered Denso Universal O2 from EBAY ($22). PROBLEM FIXED! Runs like new. No bogging or hesitation now. MPG improved significantly from 15 mpg highway to over 20 mpg. Mid-range RPM bogging is classic O2 failure. I've seen this problem reported a lot lately. Check your O2!

Interesting. My O2 sensor is original (187,000 miles). I have some of the same problems (hesitation, a slight stumble, and really bogs down on the highway and in the mid-range band). I'm guessing I may as well just go ahead and replace my O2 sensor. Just about everything else has been replaced sensor-wise throughout the truck, this is about the only one left.

Thanks for that info.

DC Yota... you are welcome...mine had 148,000 miles on it. Best 22 bucks that I have ever spent! Check out Evalero1 on EBAY...He has good deals and usually can match up the right parts for you if you don't see one listed.

lol, if it was the original O2 sensor on my 91 PU that I replaced, it had 283k miles on it, and that wouldn't surprise me from how it looked; old crusty thing, lol, after chipping away the dried up and baked on clay, I unbolted it to hear the sound of the porcelain rattling around inside it... I had all the same symptoms you guys are; no power, horrible gas mileage, bad idle, and ended replacing the AFM, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter (even a new intake tube... cuz I ripped mine ), temporarily disconnected the EGR valve, and all did nothing, until I replaced that old O2 sensor. Still have a little idle and power problem, but I still need to replace my fuel filter (have no idea how old it is), and I think I have some vacuum leaks to take care of too; those will hopefully take care of the idle problem, but it's only a 4cly, so I guess I can't expect too much power, lol. Also need to look into the TPS and take a look at the timing as well, but that's afterwards.
