Low Fuel (Dummy light) is out

Well tonite I realized that the low fuel light is not working completely. I have searched and read a few threads about the low fuel sender unit. Could this be the only issue or is there something else I should look at first? The light was working up into just 2 to 3 wks ago. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Steve

maybe just a bulb? have you pulled the cluster out and tried swapping with a different bulb to see if that does anything

Mine has to get realy realy low for the light to come on. When I first bought it I thought it didn't work, but it does. My guess is that if your fuel gadge works, then the light works, unless it's burnt out or something. Have you run it until it's outa gas? Just cary an extra couple gallons of gas and try it. I've always been kidna curious as to how low it can realy go.

I've often wondered if mine works. My gauge always shows "E" but when I fill up it takes less than the capacity of the tank, ie I still have a couple of gallons left. So I really don't know if mine works or not.

My idiot light has never worked and the light on my friends old truck never worked from the day he bought it brand new.
I think some of the sender units either did not work at all or else they were only connected as part of the full sr5 option package. but I will check my bulb next time I have the dash open though I thimk its a diode.

I keep a can in the back of my 3.0 but I haven't run it all the way out of gas. I have brought it all the down to 1 gal remaining and my light still didn't go on. I checked my bulb today and that was fine so Im not sure if it will go on after I take it down to less than one gallon or the sender is bad but my fuel gauge still works good.

The units are pretty simple and not prone to failure, probably a shorted or fraied wire ontop of the tank. ALL trucks came with it regardless of trim level.

IF your gauge reads wrong, you need to drop the tank and bend the float arm. OR the arm has worn out of the grove on the float. Both issues are due to the fact that there are NO baffles in the tanks and all that gas sloshing around on the trail puts a beating on the float arm.

I know mine works, cause when I am almost on empty going up a steep hill, the light comes on.
