Louder valve chatter/ping when warm

Been noticing my valves (I think) are making an awful lot of noise when the engine is warmed up. When its cold, I hardly notice them. I am not sure if they are the valves that are making the noises or what. I am fairly certain its not the timing chain. What else would be making a pinging noise?

Am I missing something? Why would it get louder when warm? Anyone?

Because the oil thins out when it gets warmer and maybe the valve tolerances loosen up. Just a guess...

It should get quieter because the metal expands and the clearance tightens up, thats why you set you valves when hot. Use a long screwdriver like a stethoscope to find where the noise is coming from.

Good to know, I stand corrected.

Yes, thats why I was asking the question...I thought it would get quieter.

I tried that method, and I dont hear the chain rattle until very high RPM. Sounds like its the valves but I can't really tell. The loudest is during deceleration, coming up to a stop light or whatever.
