lots of help needed
Hey, this is my first post so please dont give me too much crap.... Well a couple months ago i bought a 95 toyota 4runner for 1,200 bucks. I originally wanted an extended cab pickup but seein how I couldnt find one cheep and the 4runner is built basically the same, i just went with the 4runner. So... I need help with a few problems i have found with it. 1st... very low compressinon in the... 6th cylinder? the farthest back on the passenger side... but it has like 5psi max of compression so people keep tellin me i have a valve stuck... what do i do!? it runs pretty bad at idle and has little power 2nd... dash lights are out... but, when i turn the lights on the sterio also dimms all the way out like the dimmer switch is off (yes i tried turning it) so whats wrong there? and ya i checked the fuse. 3rd... doesnt that key hole in the tailgate raise and lower the window? cuz mine doesnt do anything... i've checked for disconnected wires and couldnt find any, would u guys say its just the switch or what? thanks alot people, later

My head gasket isn't blown yet, but it definitely leaks giving me a rough idle after it warms up and fouls a plug if I let it idle too long. Do you have bubbles coming out of your radiator overflow?
You may need a new dimmer for your dash. They break and wear out eventually.
A friend of mine had a similar tailgate problem and found some wires disconnected inside the tailgate. It could also be the control relay. You should hear it click when you turn the key. I think it is located behind a rear plastic panel, but am not totally sure about that.

just a couple things about doing a compression test- remove all the spark plugs from the engine, disconnect the distributor signal wire, hold the throttle wide open.
If you think it's a stuck valve or blown headgasket, a leak down test will help you isolate the problem before you start tearing things apart.

In your tailgate, the two mostly likely fixes are that your motor is blown, or that there is something wrong with one of the relay's. Matt16 did a great write-up on how he fixed his relay's and to check if it is the motor, here's the link for it. https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f128...runner-137310/
