Looking for definitive answer on spindle/CV grease

Hey all, after looking through all the forums and my 1988 FSM, and finding some relic threads from 2006 and nothing in the FSM, I'm stumped.

I'm rebuilding my front Left Steering knuckle, new CV (torn boot, and ruling out the possibility that it was the cause of my noise). I have what I believe is the worn/dry bushings problem, as I am finding brass shavings/dust in the spindle, and the bushings look worn as hell.

I have the new brass bushings, inner and outer. I'm waiting for a new dust cover oil seal to arrive (PN 90313-92001). I have two questions that I can't seem to get answered anywhere else:

1) How much grease should go into the spindle on the bushings? Should it be a light layer (as the FSM kinda sort of suggests) or should it be fully packed with grease? (As the post suggesting a magic threaded grease tool would produce)
2) What type of grease do i want in the spindle? I assume NOT the red wheel bearing grease. There is a product called CV joint grease, but I don't think that's it either.

Has anyone ever re-built their knuckle? What am I missing? this problem has been plaguing me every time I lock the hubs for the last couple of years, really hoping this finally fixes it, but I don't want to find the problem again in a couple of years, so trying to do it right. Pictures of the current set-up for illustration...

Thanks in advance!

I would use an EP #2 moly grease and split the difference between just smeared and completely packed.

There are new type and old type seals for these knuckles see here: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...l-help-289438/

Awesome. Nice link to the parts thread, thank you. Everything in finding from Toyota just says discontinued, so hopefully there is an aftermarket solution

I'm pretty sure the new style seals are NOT discontinued, but as the thread I linked to says, both the seal on the knuckle and the seal on the half shaft must be changed in matching pairs.

The part numbers for the new type seals are included there.

That would make sense. I have no idea what the PO had in there for a CV, not sure if it is stock or what. Maybe there was already a mismatch which added to the damage.
