Looking at a 2nd gen

I have a 98 SR5 5-speed 4x4 that I am going to be selling soon and I found a good deal on a super clean 94 SR5 5-speed 4x4. The only thing is the engine is bad. I e-mailed the owner asking what exactly is wrong with it. If I could get this truck for abot $1000 I think I would.

The main thing is what are my options for engines? What's a good price to pay for a good engine.

Is a 3.4 swap worth it and what parts am I going to have to get?

I'm not very familure with the 2nd gens.

well someone here in nc had a running motor for $200. was from an 80s model toyota. Where are you located? That can help narrow your range of prices. What did the owner say about the engine? i'd day if your gonna do a motor swap....go with a v8 or a supra motor. lol twisty4runners v8 conversion is straight nasty.

my 5speed v6 with 36s and 5:29s pulls for me just fine. I'll get some footage for ya if you want. if you get a good 3.0 they can pull the weight. in my opinion that is.

I'm in missouri. If I found the right price for an engine I am willing to travel.

Was that running engine a 3.0?

I'm thinking of at least putting the 3.4 in it cause that engine isn't going to cost much more than the 3.0 and i'll have a bit more power.

People pull 3.0's all the time for swaps. You could probably find a running one for a very reasonable price. If you are thinking about the 3.4 swap then get the thing cheap and go from there. You weren't planning on having a 3.0 anyway.

I bought a 1990 4runner 3.0 about a month ago for $550. Engine runs great, just has a bad head gasket I'm doing the HG replacement now.

If it were me, and the engine was trash, I'd do a v8 swap. In fact, I will be doing a 302 v8 swap when this 3.0 is trashed

Is there anywhere out there that has wiring diragrams and some wiring instructions?

I need to look at the wiring first before I want to undertake something like this.

I think you have to get a manual for the donor motor's wiring and the vehicle's harness. The 3.4 has a lot of different harnesses depending on whether it is an auto, 5 speed, and also by year.
