Beware of that scammer Tim Jenkins, he's a cheat and a lier. He's scammed a ridiculous number of people. Just check w/ the BBB in CA on his company. There's a report on him a mile long, he finally had to leave Calif to get away from all the angry customers.
Dead on Arrival pretty well describes what your experience will be.
Stay as far away from that crook as you possibly can. You've been warned.

I don't know anything about DOA but I suggest you check out LCE as they have a pretty decent reputation

I looked him up on the CA BBB and found nothing except a "CCC" rating. Under the NC BBB they've had 1 complaint in 36 months.

x2!
I've met quite a few people that were screwed over by DOA, (ok a lot!) but NEVER have I met someone who got more screwed by DOA than MonsterMaxx... I still think he should file a lawsuit and I personally hate all lawsuits.
Secondarily if you search for ARP headstuds for the 3vze you'll find some headstuds sold by DOA that they claimed were ARP. They were NOT! I have educated myself to all of ARP's lineup and what DOA is selling is black anodized standard bolts with the heads cut off claiming they were studs. DOA is just a bunch of crooked crooks that will do nothing but take your money and give you nothing in return.
I have seen at least 3 people on here get DOA's "turnkey" heads for their 3vze's...same result, butchered valve jobs, resurfaced heads with a freakin beltsander?!?!, cams that necessitated the use of toyota's largest shims so after 80,000 miles you had to buy new cams...just on and on and on.
DOA will NEVER get 1 cent from me, and I've never even dealt with them, nor will I ever. I have done a LOT of searches here, on other forums, and on the net and this is the conclusion Ive come to....Avoid DOA and if you have that money to burn, you'd have a much better time throwing a kegger with steaks and brauts on superbowl weekend for you and your friends. (Actually that sounds really really appealing right now...lol)
So what did I do when my 3vze's HG popped? I made a bee line to engine builder, dropped 800 (roughly and includes shipping) on everything I wanted done and I could not be happier!! And he doesnt even specialize in the 3vze, he specializes in YOUR engine the 22re!!
Give him a call, he will definately put you on the right track and get you the biggest bang for your buck!

When I reported his scamming azz to the BBB there was a whole raft of others who'd reported him before me.
There's a long list of responsible, reliable, qualified businesses you can go to on the 22r motor and DOA/Tim Jenkins is not on that list.
Buyer Beware!
Now use your brain (which I didn't), why on earth would you want to buy an engine or parts from someone called: "Dead On Arrival"?
It's not cutsie, it's precognitive.
As for me & a lawsuit, When it happend 5+yrs ago Scammer was in Calif, me in SC, that's across country, the legal fees and travel would have far exceeded the damages and there's no provision for legal fees. Tim knew this and that's why he dicked me.
Today it's way past the statute of limitations and there's nothing I can do. I still hate the turd eater and will warn everyone I can to beware of this scum.

I double checked the CA BBB, it shows no complaints:
http://www.labbb.org/BBBWeb/Forms/Bu...anyID=13150102
Is there some other place that reflects the complaints? I'd be very interested.
DOA is currently in NC, again - showing 1 complaint - resolved - in the last 36 months:
http://www.bbbenc.org/go.html?locati...nk.php3?locate
This board doesn't like to deal with a short search string - but searching for DOAracing primarily turns up experiences from MonsterMaxx.
I don't think DOA is a bunch of "scammers" - as far as I know it's a one man operation. I believe that significant amounts of the machine work is farmed out. That being said, if that machine work is wrong - the owner should take responsibility for it.
MonsterMaxx - how many times have you rebuilt your 3.0? I mean absolutely no offense here - and I'm not defending TIM, but consider:
It seems like you've had it rebuilt (non-DOA) and it's failed again. You cracked a piston. I feel for your position, but either you've got repeated assembly/machine work problems that aren't just isolated to DOA - or you've got a motor that's signficantly modified from stock and you're not checking your air/fuel. Hey, if Tim screwed you over he SHOULD get trashed on this board - but could something else be up if you've gone to multiple machine shops and you're still having major engine failures?
For a *basic* 22R rebuild, I'd go to engnbldr. You'll have a nice torque curve in the drivable RPM range at a good price point. If you really want a 150hp 22R, I'd start asking for dyno results on that number and the required list of supporting bolt ons that it's going to take to get there. Otherwise you might as well buy one of those "160hp" ebay engines... After about 130hp, you've got to do port work and then you're talking about spinning that little 22R up in the RPM range pretty good - not necessarily what you want for a street motor.
LC Engineering builds good stuff, but you'd think it was gold plated.
Tim's stuff isn't cheap either.
If you're really looking to dump $2500 plus into a 22RE, I think you can get a fully functional turbo 22RE for around that much, if you're willing to do your own assembly and can start with a 22RE core. You'll see over 170hp.
Tim did my 22RE head. It wasn't cheap - new casting, oversized valves setup to deal with turbo temperatures, custom cam, dual valve springs, full port work, bench flowed. It was around $1500. It flows better than an LC Engineering stage 3 head, if I recall correctly.
Port work without a flow bench test is like a hp advertisment without dyno results.
Photos of his work:

Jeff Mosk, who pioneered a bunch of 22RTE stuff, seems to be pretty impressed with his work also:
http://www.well.com/~mosk/
Full disclosure:
The rocker assembly had a minor problem - 2 rockers were out of place. I don't know how the topline castings are provided to Tim.. It was a minor issue and really not possible to cause an engine issue - it's obvious. I gave Tim some minor grief over it.
I ordered a "turbo" oil pump from Tim. It cost around $140 - as I thought he was the only one that had them. It turned out to be a stock pump that had been ported and had a higher preload on the pressure bypass. Not what I expected, but I don't think you can get the turbo pumps anymore.

I purchased Turn Key 3.0 heads and reground cams and head stud kit for a total of about $1500 shipped. Heads lasted 3k miles before the cams killed them. The cams almost killed a second set of heads that I paid $700 before I was able to catch on to what the problem was. I never used the studs. If some one is looking for DOA cams let me know I would take $150 for them just to recoup some of my losses. The builder of the 2nd set of heads offered to repair the damaged valves that the DOA cams took out free of charge. I also got before and after flow bench numbers on my heads from the second builder which is far more than you will ever get from DOA. All DOA is good at dishing out is bull ลลลล.
I talked to Tim on the phone several times he claims I was running too rich thats why the Intake valves where getting beat to hell, How many times have you ever heard of a 3.0 having problems with Intake valves????. I put some stock cams in and no more problem. Tim talks a good talk but if I had not been across the country from him he would probably not be walking a good walk if you know what I mean. In the end I guess some lessons in life just cost more than others.
Just for everyones Information Tim is buying OS valves through Ted and reselling them for much more than Engnbuilder (Ted) . I guess if he buys them from Ted and actually puts them in heads as advertised then customers will get more than I got. All I got was an assurance of OS valves that turned out to be a lie (stock size intakes and exh).

Yes much of what Tims sells was developed by Ted or others. Ted knows his 22re and he knows his 3vze, I have spent a lot of time talking to him and his hands on research with both engines is impressive. You will get top quality parts, bottom dollar pricing and awesome service from Ted. Ted spent a lot of time helping me with my 3.0 build which he never got paid for. Ted is awesome, its like all he lives for is you being happy with your engine.

Only heard good things about Engnbuilder. I bought a gasket set from them once and it was low-cost, high-quality, and had more than everything I needed - they had thought of every little piece and part that you might need in a top-end rebuilt.

218cfm @ .425/16" water 103 F
200cfm @ .425/16" water 106 F
That's somewhere between LC Engineerings stage 3 and 4 heads.

What part of the valves were beat?

What's your source for that statement? Did Tim tell you he was buying Ted's stuff? The valves he used in my head are by ferrara. They cost a lot more than Ted's valves, but they're not sized the same either.
Again - not disputing your issue with DOA - I'd just like to keep the facts straight - I've got him listed on my website as a vendor and I'll remove him if I'm able to get factual answers.

A guy in a local 4x4 club here baught a set of heads from DOA or so he thought.
His money order was cashed but no parts were sent, no tracking number given and he was left SOL. Sounds like theft to me. Sad thing is how do you fight it when you are in a different country and the ammount is under $3000? All you can do is work off your Visa and not buy from DOA again.

WOW thanks for all the info ,but if you guys could point me to another engine builder I would appreciate it, I want a long block and might do the pull myself??
