Lock Trouble

In the last week, my truck has decided to shoot the lock knob into the stratosphere every time I unlock it with my fob. I don't know much when it comes to electronics and locks. I attached some pictures below.

Looks like the plastic rectangular piece that sits on the door skin broke from the inside part of it.

I would take off the door skin and see whats going on. Make sure all the rods are in tact, and visually inspect everything. The bottom part of that piece if it broke would most likely be inside the door, shouldn't be too hard to find it.

Door skin comes off easy. These are the steps for mine (manual everything nothing electronic):
1.a phillips screw behind the inside door handle latch. The latch then slides either left or right to "unclip" from the metal door.
2.two Phillips screws on the armrest thing
3.a snap ring/ C clip on the window roll up Lever.
4.theres a plastic triangle piece above the door skin towards engine that needs to come off. (Pry off gently with screwdriver with electrical tape on the tip)
5.then get a screwdriver and wrap electrical tape around the tip, and use that pry the plastic clips from the metal door. Start from bottom and make your way to top.
6.raise the doorskin off and feed the door lock through the hole it goes through

7. I don't have any electronics in my door, but if yours does, you just need to unplug the wires from those too, you may need to gently pry other pieces as well

Your door should have a sheet of plastic under the inside "skin" to protect the mechanism from water. It's stuck to the metal with goop mined from the Black Lagoon. You'll want to reinstall the sheet if you can (try not to tear it). I've found that a heat gun (or just a hair dryer) will soften the goop enough to pull off the plastic. But it remains incredible sticky! Be careful how you set it aside, and keep your fore-arms out of the stuff left on the frame.

If you need new "goop", here's what it is: https://www.amazon.com/3M-08578-Black-Strip-Calk/dp/B000PEZ1L4/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=3m+butyl+caulk&qid=16 23535975&sr=8-1
3M Strip Calk, 08578, Black, 1 ft Strips, 60 per carton

Stays soft forever. Same stuff is used on all the doors (and tailgate) to seal the plastic sheeting, and to seal the inspection cover over the fuel tank under the right rear seat.
