92 Tailgate Lock
Been looking off and on for years for a pop-lock for our year tailgates, never found one or any other after-market lock. Does anyone know of one? I guess I could have installed one of those remote things but I don't have auto door locks so didn't want to just for the tailgate.
Had a friend cut me some 1/16 SS and came up with this idea. I wanted to avoid drilling anywhere that could be normally seen in case I ever wanted to remove it. Hopefully this will help someone out who's been looking to do the same.

Very smart idea!
The only thing I might add would be to weld some kind of nub or something on there to keep the lock from smacking into your paint & taillight repeatedly. Possible use a lock with a shorter loop and lock it so it stays horizontal to the flange, and away from your finish.

i always thought that if ya put a big ole lock on somethin...people won't be able to getin usually.
WRONG.
i had to cut a lock, that was lots thicker than you got there, over the summer because an Enogex hand had lost the key to a jobsite (dumb@#$), we just busted out a set of small bolt cutters, maybe 12"-14" long..and it cut the lock NO problem AT ALL
just saying, that it someone wants in your truck, a lock will not stop them.

thanks for the suggestions guys. The lock has a rubber coating around it (black) and I put a piece of felt behind the lock that you can't see. In the picture it is un-locked so it doesn't hang as much at it appears, still I might look for a bigger one or a cable like you all havesaid.
I realize it can be cut, and it is just a working deterrent for my purposes. My truck is garaged at home and only goes one place...to the beach. My reason for doing it was to keep the kids from stealing my beach chair and some loose kayak stuff that they probably have no use for while I'm out kayaking (4-5 hours). People walking by or hanging out at the beach wouldn't know if someone was breaking in or not if they just walked up and opened the tailgate to take some stuff out, it may appear as if it was theirs. So they'll have to walk around the beach with bolt cutters if that's what they are doing.
Someone can improve on it for their own needs if they keep tools and other expensive stuff in their beds, I just wanted to get the idea out there as I couldn't find an after-market lock for our tailgates.
