A little rubbing
Hey I finally got some 31x10.50 tires for the 92 truck. I was always told that I wouldnt have a problem with rubbing... But when I am in reverse with the wheel cranked either way I can hear it rubbing on something, I cranked the wheels lock to lock and I cant find what its rubbing on for the life of me. What are the most common areas for the tires to rub on? and also am I going to cause signigicant damage over time with a little rubbing everyday?
Thanks,
Dan

Thats a little confusing. I don't see how it should rub but I think from what you're describing I doubt you'll cause much damage. You might want to crank the t-bars a little 1 or 2 turns maybe that should take care of your rubbing problem.

Thanks
I am using the stock rims that came with the truck(silver panted 5 spokes or whatever). I was thinking about cranking the t-bars as well... maybe ill do that this upcoming weekend and see what happens. I have never done that before but ill search around for it and come back if I have any questions.
Thanks Again,

Are you sure it's not just the steering stops or some other front end place making creaks or squeaks? I did notice on mine that at full lock and full stuff on the front end my tires rub a less than 1sq in. spot on part of the fender, but that's pretty rare, and my heavy bumper doesn't help.

I wouldnt think it would rub at all.My 87 truck had 31's on it for 9 years and never a problem. Now i have 36's and get a rubbing sound when i crank the wheels but its the sholder of the tire.I guess i ran them a bit hard when i got em and wore out the centers more then the outsides and now its louder on hard corners...
have you looked at steering parts like maybe balljoints or tierods? You said it happens in reverse so maybe the wheel is shifting a bit and allowing it to brush something. Also look at your upper suspension arm. With the 4inch backspace wheels on i rub at full lock because the blocks of tread go so far down on the inside of the tire.
Hope i was a little helpful

i ran 31 for a while with my stock rims. finally got mickey thompson classic II's 15x8's with 3.75" backspacing and my 31's now rub on my front mud flaps at full stuff. nothing where its going damage the tire but does rub. check the mud flaps!

..
Yha I do have mudflaps so it could be the culpret... I also noticed that they are awefull close to the little rubber lining things on the inner fenderwell, so maybe in reverse with the nose going down its enough to rub them a little?. But at least I have peace of mine knowing that its probably nothing major... When I have some extra time maybe this weekend ill figure it out for sure, possibly take off the flaps etc.. and let you all know. Thanks again for all the replies.

My 93 used to rub a little at full lock on the pinch weld/plastic inner fender. But it would only very minimal unless hitting ruts or rocks. I just took a BFH and flattened the pinch weld flat and no more rub.

the rubber thing covering the pinchweld is where my 32's rubbed on full lock in reverse even with the t-bars cranked. On the rubber wasnt bad, but on the other side i dont have the rubber piece so it was starting to gouge the tire in a couple spots. I ended up hammering the pinch weld flat, and filing down the sharp edge a bit, and it doesen't rub anymore
