Haha mine was just regular maitence untill today when i threw some 38's on my locked ifs and went bogging. Lets just say she wont be offroading untill i get that solid axle in. Oh and i forgot, my truck may have seen its limit when the 4 wheel linkage disconected somehow in the t-case and i was stuck down the sickest ATV trail in my town.



She drove out that night after getting her on all 4 then searching on my hands and knees in 2 feet of water for my keys for like 3 hours.

 

Hah, sorry, I must ask, what the heck does IFS have to do with your rollover?
I ran 38s on stock IFS, and it worked fine that way.

Haha no just today i put 38s on my truck and i think broke the inner axle shaft in my front end so that was one time it met its limits. Then i edited and said another time i when i broke my 4wd and rolled it in the quad trail was another time it may have met its limits. haha sorry if i made it confusing. Im in a bit of a pickle and not thinking straight

 

Hehe, okay. Well, I can tell for my parts, the IFS is fairly strong (FYI stock axles in IFS are stronger than stock axles on Hilux solid axle .

But I prefer solid axle in front and rear, on coils tho'!

 

replace cvs
a couple minor engine probs here and there
no head gasket probs
replace the cluch at 200,000 miles
with 300,xxx miles on the runner

 

My limit I guess would be 70mph and anything
hotter than about 80 degrees. The old radiator doesn't
like it much hotter than that

My 4Runner's only limit is the speed limit, and my credit limit.......that applies to gas, and mods, and everything else.

 

80 mph before its unsafe.
35 degress across a slope before I get really worried


What limits me most is no locker when I get crossed up.
Sliders would also allow me to drive more aggressively off road without worrying about body damage.

 

Oh yeah, and it's my daily driver, so I gotta go easy on er.

 

i met a guy today that is 87 years old and has 984,000 miles on his 79 toyota pickup!!!!!! no joke, he has replaced the oil and belts and fuel filter, thats it. He is my new hero!!!

awsum my hero too man. I beg to differ. I can snap ifs axles all day. no joke birfields hold up extremely well for me. Well as long as my frontend is open. Don't get me wrong ifs is impressive to a certain point where it becomes embarrasing

 

i agree i have a grenaded ifs parts, but im not knocking ifs i used it for years
did me well, only made me walk a few times, lol

 

Strange, because I've heard from the Toyota Local dealer (in Iceland) that axles in the Hilux SFA are more frequently bought than axles from IFS. Strange, because there aren't so many vehicles that have a SFA, atleast the IFS ones are quite more. (I'm talkin' 'bout 'yotas mostly on 33s-38s)

When you broke an axle in the IFS, did you have a BJ lift kit or something that changes the angle of the axle?

I've had IFS on my 38" runner for years and never broken a thing. And there have been days when I'm more in the air than on the ground.

 

i admit the torsion bars were up and the shaft angle was high, but if i wasn't breakin an axle i would grenade that tiny 7.5" ring gear. you can't even find a ifs 3rd around here, I used them all. Strength is all in how you drive i guess. I got a heavy right foot and a quick left foot. More than likely also them SFA are gettin used and abused prob a lil more than a ifs rig. I've saw IFS axles break from turnin too far with factory bumpstops.

 

i cant be sure, i pinned the gauge at 110 in my 94 PU, so i dont know how much faster than that i was going, my guess would be around 115.

soon as i hit that speed i let off though, it was scary

 

Crap, I've done 100mph in a Corolla and that was a little out of control, 115 in a PU would be nuts.

 

IFS axles are indeed stronger then the SFA axles but only in a strait line, full turn and the SFA will be a little stronger, but not by much, birfields braek all day long just as much as halfshafts. I had both and I took pretty good care of my '85 and it broke the front end just 2 times with 33" tires and i too wheel my trucks to the limits, on the other hand my '88 is abused (at least the front end im waiting for it to break so i can swap in my dana44) but refuses to crap out, it has had the boots torn off for over a year i just spray them down with motor oil before i take it out and they havent gave up yet.

 

^ Stock for stock, yes, but upgraded birfs are much stronger than the CV's.
