Lights on the fritz

so i was on my way home tonight, turned on my directional, and it flashed fast, like it would when a bulb went out. i tried the other, and it did the same thing. i have a wire converter in there due to aftermarket tail lights, but everything has worked ok.

the only thing that wasn't right about them before but it didn't bother me was that if my directional was on, and i stepped on the brakes, it would flash fast. also the flashers wouldn't work in the rear unless the brake lights were on too. didn't bother me though.

any idea what could be the issue? maybe the converter crapped out?
