lighting?

Can anyont tell me how much extra power I have to play with on an 88' 22RE, for aux lighting and such?

Also, where's the easiest power source for switched power for the lights?

Well, for extra lights, you'd be well reserved to run an entire new circuit
Depending on the lights, you can usually get away with a switch and a fuse and 4-8ga wire.
If you buy a light kit, usually there is a harness that comes with it, and instructions on how to mount it.

sweet, so 2 x 55-watts should be no problem, maybe I'll get a couple more for fog and heavy snow!

I'm sorry.. but 4 gauge? Try 12 gauge... 4 gauge is for stereos.

get LED offroad lights and you'll pretty much never have any issue with how many you can put on the rig.

In general, you have an alternator rated for around 65 amps. That is easily consumed by the stock electrical system, with little amperage to spare.

I wouldn't add more than 10-15 amps (120-180 watts) to the stock system without upgrading the charging system.

The "best" place to pull power would be directly from the battery: install an auxillary fuse block.

Go halogen and stay with halogen, but go with a 1 wire GM alt..

I've NEVER looked back .. Was running 6 35w hid offroad lights, 2 35w hid driving lights, and a 1000w stereo system and the battery gauge doesn't even notice when you switch all 8 hids on at once..

i know old thread but you have roughly 200 watts to play around with everything but the radio i have 2 100w halogen lights on mine and while running down the highway with the headlights on radio running ( just a headunit 1 factory speaker, and 2 sony 6x9) the 2 lights about max the alt so untill you upgrade your pretty well stuck at 200 watts or so

I'm pretty sure most of you have gone to school, that being said, there are mathematical formulas for this, most are very simple and you would learn something in the process, but then again with the quality of education in this country maybe you can't do the math.
I'll help you out
To convert watts to amps> watts/volts=amps, amps to watts> amps*volts=watts
