lifting the rear to level it out

Hey fellas. I'm getting ready to add a little preload to my tortion bars, because the front is WAY to soft in it's current configuration (Rancho UCA's and 1.5" BJ-spacers) and the nose is really dipping when I get on the brakes even moderately hard. Sure it rides really smooth, but riding on the bump stops when hitting the brakes isn't fun, lol.

So I'm going to put a few turns on the t-bar adjusters to stiffin it up some, but it's going to gain a little altitude in the process, and I for one don't like the "bull-dog" look of the rear being lower than the front...

Now I'm still running on the original springs from 1991, with 298k miles on them, and sure their sagging a bit as a matter of fact, I'm running WabFab's 3.5" longer shackles just to bring the rear just slightly over original hight, lol

But here's my question. With some tortion cranked in and the front sitting maybe 2-2.5" higher than stock, do you think I can bring the rear up to the same hight using the 3.5" longer shackles and some new replacment original hight rear leafs that aren't sagging, or am I still going to be sitting low in the rear? My other thought was, does anyone make a 1" lifted rear leaf? I can't seem to find one; all that I can locate is 3" and up... As much as I REALLY don't want to, and as much as I am against them, I guess I could even settle for a 1" block if the rear isn't up where I want it after new original hight springs... any thoughts on 1" blocks?

Oh yeah, is OME's web site up? Are they still in business? I can't get their web page to load...

Thanks guys!

have you thought 'bout buying new springs that have a 3" higher arc? Or having yours re-arched?

I'd vote for lifted / re-arched springs without the extended shackles.
Alternately, upsize your torsion bars and keep the ride height as you have it.

well I actually have a set of 26mm's sitting in the garage, but I'd rather get the same spring rate as those by cranking the stock bars a little and getting a little lift out of the deal at the same time

and idealy, I'd like to keep using the longer shackles in the rear to aid with the rear flex

plus, $80 for beafy shackles, I'd hate to see them go

but as far as just using lifted springs with the stock shackles, even then, I can still only find 3" and up, and then that'll put the rear higher than the front, a look that I also don't like... I just want the truck to ride good and level, at about 2" (+ or - .5") higher than stock

ok wait, I just had a brain fart...

the 3.5" longer shackles in the rear are by theory suppose to lift the rear about 1.75"... so, those coupled with NEW original hight springs will probably put the rear over the truck right over 2" higher, at least untill the springs settle in, lol

and with a little tortion added up front, I'm wandering if that'll be plenty to level things out...

I might just go ahead and do the t-bars tomorrow and go out and get an alignment, see how things look, and then decide...

hmmmmm.....

that's what I'm still trying to find out OME's web site isn't operational, but I'm pretty sure they offer some

as for the current rear sag, here's what I'm talking about:

don't really have any better pics, but yeah they're pretty much flat, lol

You can add springs or rebuild the rear stock packs ya know? Thats what I did to bring my truck more level after my SAS.

It sat level but now is about 3/4" lower in the rear.. oh well. But can't beat FREE.

I had a set of 2003 Tacoma Rears, two leaves from a Chevy 63 pack and two leaves from an All-Pro 5" front pack. I re-used the stock main and secondary leaves of the stock springs so I wouldnt have to put in new hangars.

Also longer than stock shackles isn't a problem. I don't understand what peoples beefs are with longer shackles? the bolts used in aftermarket shackles w/ poly bushings are almost twice as thick in diamater as stock not to mention the shackles are typically 1/4" steel. No matter how you look at it, it's an upgrade in strength and provides lift and travel.

well my WabFab's are DEFINATELY stronger than the stock ones

although as you can see, they don't do a heck of a lot for the hieght when the springs are shot, lmao
