As long as your stock bars are not worn out and/or you have not added substantial weight up front (like a heavy winch bumper), then the stock torsion bars are fine (spring rate increases proportional to the 4th power of the diameter). The balljoint spacers will give you the lift you are looking for without stiffening up the suspension and will also help with suspension travel.

i sure do hope the balljoint spacers are a good idea. from what everyone says they are the best for ride quality and such for the price. the thicker tbars dont give u lift either. all they do is retain lift better and allow for a little more crank. its still gonna be the same deal as ur stockers with new bars, except ur ride will be stiffer.

4crawler is the way to go dude, i have that same lift and i got it 3 years ago from roger brown (4crawler). he is the man, i did not do my bj spacers i took it to a shop and they installed for 40 bucks each side. the rear is a piece of cake, if your only willing to spend $600 go this route and you will have 300 left over for gas

Yes, 2"-3" longer than stock shackles should match the lift up front. 2" longer gives no more than 1.5" of lift, 3" longer would probably give you at least 1.5" lift:

But you can always adjust the front up or down to match the rear lift.

so what do you figure the mx lift the BJ spacers can give me is? without sacraficing ride quality or flex?

Probably the same as for no spacers, at least as far as the torsion bars go, allowing for the ~1.5" lift of the spacers. That is, crank up the torsion bars for more lift and the ride quality and flex will suffer. Have heard of folks getting 1/2"-1" more lift w/o too much trouble, but each person is different in terms of what they consider acceptable ride quality.

Mine: Downey bars in front, shackle lift in rear. About 1 and 1/2 inch lift (enough to clear 32x11.50). Cost: about $180 for Downeys (that's price and shipping to NorCal), $55 for 1 and 1/2 inch shackles. Do the work yourself and save $$$.

Actually, stiffer bars don't even retain lift better or allow more cranking. The loading on the back actually drops when you crank them up (no intuitive but has to do with the angle of the upper a-arm with the ground) and all torsion bar lifting is ultimately limited by the upper control arm bumpstops.

All stiff bars do is make the front more stiff. If that's was you want (high speed wheeling, adding heavy bumper/winch), great, but if not they will decrease off road performance on the trail.
