Knocking on 1986 22R

My engine started knocking not too long ago. I'm going to have the spark plugs and timing chain looked at to see if they are the culprits. But, I saw someone mentioning adjusting the carb as well. How do you do that? I didn't know you could.

do you mean pinging, knocking or ticking. all seperate culprits involved.

carb/plugs = pinging

bearings = knocking

ticking = valves.

a video would help someone here try to diagnose.

search google for aisin carburetor adjustments. You will find your info.

I would say pinging. The sound is very light pitched, like a plastic baby rattle, but I can definitely hear it loud and clear. It's definitely tied to the engine, as it gets faster as I step on the gas, and when I let off the gas, it generally goes away. BUT....I suppose it could be the valves.....I didn't think of that. I have a 3rd gen MR2 Spyder that has ticking valves.....they sound similar, but this sounds more like a rattle than a tick.

Can't put a video up yet because the exhaust is loud. The exhaust sound would drown it. When I get the exhaust fixed, I will upload a video.
