Knock sensor relocation

I just got a code 52. My pigtail has broken. I would like to "bypass" the sensor by installing a used one in the engine hook. As long as I don't hear any spark knock (which I have a great ear for), I should be fine, right? My '86 Chev 454 doesn't have one, and it runs pretty good

I am just trying to buy some time with this "mod" as I know this is a temporary fix. I have 201k on mthis rig and would rather put in a new pigtail when/if I have to do a top end rebuild. Does all this make good logic?
