Knock Knock, 22re

So the 87 pup I bought a few days ago had a knock. I pulled the motor today and have it on my stand and all taken apart minus crank (didn't have time to check thrust clearance yet). So before I pulled the pistons/rods I flipped the motor over on the stand and was just feeling the rods on the journals and number 3 moved a lot. The rest felt tight by feel. I pull 1, 2, and then 3 comes out and there are no bearings, the rod is eaten up and very noticeable. The crank as well though not as bad looking.

So I'm curious, I'm going to just say for now that the crank is out of spec on that journal, I'll measure it tomorrow to be sure. But where have any of you guys gotten new cranks, or remans and bearings, I'd only want a reman if it comes with both sets of bearings. I'm curious to hear what your opinions are. I'll be taking the motor to a shop to have it cleaned and speced to see what I need from engnbldr. But for now, I wouldn't mind hearing what ya have to say.

You guys with OS SS valves, have you really noticed much? I'm doing the head while this thing is apart and it is tempting, I'm going with the full master kit with the 268 cam.

#1 bearing (bearing was placed in cap for the picture, it is backwards)

I've had really good luck so far with the new (not remanned) crank I bought from japanengine.com. Very reasonable price. Got my Bearing kit from Engnbldr.com along with the rest of my rebuild stuff. With the exception of the crank and rods from japanengine.

Keep ion mind, the crank from them is shipped with a rust preventive coating. You must clean that coating off before using. I used lint free rags and mineral oil to do so.

Lucked out today and bought a used 22r for cheap. Had a blown hg, but I've now taken it apart and the bearings including tw are in spec. I'll be putting My head on the block as soon as I confirm they dont need to be decked. I'm excited to get the truck going, plus I'll have a spare good block to build up with time.

Curious about the v6 brake swap. I have a 95 runner that is parting out and leaving soon. Other then the calipers, booster and master, is there anything else I need, I'm not sure if the rotors on the runner will work on my 87 truck, also do the calipers bolt on or is there a spacer, the searches I've done have mixed results. Lastly does the proportioning valve remain the same?

Alright! I ordered my engnbldr master kit plus 268c cam. My machinist said, .020 over and standard mains and rod bearings. I can't wait till next week when I can put it together!

Plus I did a bit more digging on the brakes my runner has and I have all the stuff to do the later model brake swap. I'm still a little confused on what rotors to use. I have 16" aluminum wheels that the previous owner added. The offset is different. They stick out a bit, looks great, I'm hoping the clearance will be fine with the calipers. Time to pull some parts!
