Kickback cable-barely have reverse
I recently bought 94 4runner 3.boo w/ a340h trany to find that the reverse would work if I revved engine, pressure right. I noticed that detent/kickback cable was busted. I pulled trany pan and filter which had a good amount of metal also in bottom of pan was like a black silicone lining it peeled off super easy. So cleaned pan replaced filter. No I didn't test solenoids, wasn't that far in reading yet. From what I've read though, not having kickback cable attached the trany looses pressure, is kickback cable attached to a solenoid? I also know I have 3rd and o/d, how exactly do you test solenoid? I appreciate the help and suggestions

If "kickback" refers to the throttle cable, that is not the cause of your problems. It only governs how "hard" the tranmission shifts, and at idle the throttle cable is slack. So it will shift into reverse easily with no throttle cable at all.
So start by reading: http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...autotrans.html Run the diagnostics to see if you have a code. Perform the manual shifting test to isolate the solenoids.
I wish you the best, but the metal is supposed to stay in the transmission. Once you get an appreciable amount of metal in the bottom of the pan, you may not be able to bring the transmission back.
