That's correct. The small one bolts into that small threaded hole you can see there right below it. I bolte the large ground to one of the #2 engine hanger bolts at the rear of the head; that was the most accessable place.

Also, I would definitely make an insulated heat shield for the header to insulate those fuel & brake lines. You're going to get some serious heat off them.

Looks great, Kat!

lmao @ the parts guy!!

Good ole woodruff/cam stay keys or whatever ya wanna call em! When I sent my parts off, I removed everything from the heads and the cams and ziplock bagged em just to prevent little issues like this. You should go back and make the parts guy give you a refund.

BTW those pins should just slide in (and out) with no fuss at all.

Bumpin' - that would have been good to know before spending a half hour trying to beat a 6mm pin into a 5mm hole?!

And yes, i would much rather be my own parts WOMAN..

You'll want some insulation behind the pass side header.

I put to layers of the foil backed stick crap... they use it on stereo installs to deadin door pannels and what not ... also a heat barrier.

The gooy crap didnt stick worth a ˟˟˟˟˟ on the first layer because it was an after thought (as the headers were half in the hole already) and i just kinda wipped down the bottom of the foot well with a rag and stuck the ˟˟˟˟˟ on.

but as i see it today the header does fine enough job holding it in place.

some peeps have reported cooked passenger footwells... others havnt reported any issues (although im lead to belive those that go to the trouble of stuffing some stuff in there fair better.

I really wanted to wrap mine in heat tape but it was difficult to locate locally and i was tired of chaseing parts at that point and just wanted the damn thing back in my truck.

IVe got a thread floating around on how to fix the TVV valve. compleate with prity pics....

the ring compressor i borrowed from a buddy worked great... one of those adjustable kind... lubed up the cylinders with a little wd40 and the rings and what not and tapped them in with a hammer handle NBD.

make shure you get your compression ring splices offset. I was so nervous that i would forget to turn one i must have checked each one like 8 times....\

i didnt worry about rights and lefts.... I had labled all my pistions/rods 1-6 and new that 1 was cloest to the front... i put them in in order.

when i was done lefts had to be on the left and rights on the right....

and i dont know who the nay sayers are that say dropping it in with headers on is an issue...

speaking of headers, what did you do with your egr and reed valves?

oh and i still need to snap some pics of how i mounted my xcase cooler underneath for all those other peeps with real 4runners (cough 4wheel drive cough)

SnapOn - Ouch to the real 4runners comment I guess I should torch mine and roll it down a hill, eh?! lol, jk, When you get a beautiful truck for 900 bucks you just cant argue sometimes - Except for the 2 Superduty's, we go thru trucks as much as we change our socks it seems -- If the 2wd runner isn't up to the task, it will go --

I labeled all my rods but they were balanced at the machine shop and were not put on the pistons as per R and L.

I am still wondering what to do about the headers and shielding - I thought about pulling that motor out again and beating on my firewall, but I really dont want to do that - I do have a bunch of dynamat around though... I could use that

I would up using that compressor pictured as well when my plier type didnt show up in the mail in time. It worked - It just got real slippery

There were quite a few naysayers out there about getting the motor in with headers - you were the only one who convinced me it could be done- ROCK ON!

I am trying not to let the egr/reed valves bother me -- I have mocked them up once and just swore at the downey engineers out loud about how stupid that is. My 3 ideas - 1) get some copper 90's and braze a contraption for the reed valve that works... 2) see if i can find another flexible pipe like the one they sent for the EGR(like the one you cut) and fanagle that into place... 3) Could i get some AN fittings and S/S hose for that? would the heat be too much? I know the header side says it is -10AN and then I could take the nipple from the bottom of the EGR and the Reed valve down to the speed shop and get the right replacement an fitting... (not sure if a)aluminum is up to the task and b) if s/s hose can handle that)

I got a nice pretty new $40 TVV valve in there

My rings are definitely in there correctly,,,

Anywho, off to work to make some green to pay for this project!

Kat, if you're like me, you are just ready to get it DONE at this point! Kudos to you on the outstanding job & great pics. It's tough to have a life & do all this to, then try to document it for everyone else.

Theres a tiny update - I did get my reed valve on as well -- Can anyone verify that my hoses on the heater core/water bypass look right? The little one on the very right(as you are looking at it) of the water bypass goes somewhere on the throttle body if I am not mistaken?

Its raining like hell today, so it is doubtful that I am going to get much done...

Heater hoses all look OK, the small hose does hook to the throttle body. The other hose that hooks to the throttle body comes from the front of the intake.

I HIGHLY suggest you hook those small hoses to the TB before you get it bolted down. The rear one is a ROYAL PITA once you have it bolted in place.

Looking good! Did you have any issues with lining up your cam timing? You ran your tension from right side to left and took it all up with the tensioner, right? The FSM said to turn each cam sprocket to the right just a smidge to put the belt on and that's why. I've noticed a lot of ppl having the problem of leaving a tooth off of the tension between the upper idler & the cam sprockets.

Toy-Tech - Thanks or verifying -- I lost all my prior pictures except for what is at the beginning of this post .

TNR - I need to pick up clamps for all those rear hose and then yes, I will hook up that hose before I set the TB and Intake on. As fas as the timing, yes I did it that way - I missed it on the first try and got it on the second - Did the 2 revolution test and they lined up great! I would up getting a new tensioner yesterday and I also had to go on a manhunt for the crush washers for the fuel system... Is it raining up at your place today?

Yep, a nice, slow drizzle.

Glad you got your timing correct. That's a PITA if you have to take it all back apart!

Also, I ran mine for the first hour or so with only water in the radiator, then ended up having to take it apart because of the oil leak. That way, I just dropped the water out & didn't have to worry about losing any coolant. After I was certain it was running ok, I put the coolant mixture in. You can also start it with your timing cover off for a few seconds just to make sure it will run. That saves you some time if it's not right or you would have to tear it all back apart again.

Can you do me a favor & check my thread; there is a bracket & a nipple I can't figure out what to do with...???

Just giving some motivation, After 2 months I got my headgasket job done. And ended up like you upgrading and fixing everything else at the same time. And about 20 trips to the dealership and probably 50 to Advance and NAPA! Good post again!

Oh its not that bad! Well not if you have a whole set of 12" long needle nosed pliers that have are straight, 45* bend, and 90* bend. I love harbour freight. They also double as GREAT teeth pullers should you ever get the urge to rip one of your own teeth out! <--- Does that count as a pun?

Bumpin - I assume your thinking for asthetical/theft deterrent purposes on the loom? I actually have a holl roll of it in the shop... lol

Shorty - Thanks for the motorvation - I am excited to drive it, however I do not wish for it to be shortlived by shortcutting. I saw your truck fro sale on another forum today too. GL with that
