K&N FIPK w/ISR MOD noise issue
since I had the cams done the noise of the FIPK/ISR air intake combo has increased a LOT. The sound has changed too- I am wondering if I connected something incorrectly. Here is a video of the FIPK/ISR with sound cranked up. Is this normal? It never used to sound this way.

My personal opinion is that these "Cold Air" intakes are a lot of snake oil, a HUGE waste of time/money, and actually hurt your engine because those type filters let a TON more dirt into your intake. They are notoriously LOUD as well. All for an absolutely insignificant increase in power.

as for the dirt, i dont rly understand how u could say that. ur still pullin in the same exact air, and its going through the same exact amount of filtering. right? as for noise, i could see a little bit of noise increase.

i run the downey and i could tell it had a little more power than my k&n drop in, as for more dirt in the motor i've never seen that problem on my AFM's

your engine going to run diffrently with the new cam. You might have more vaccum at idle and its popping past the AFM more..
as for K&N crap filters heres an example of why they suck.
My dads 99 4runner had a drop in and it killed his MAF in less than a year. Cleaning it didnt even work we replaced the whole unit.
My 2000 Tacoma was having starting issues when I first got it and I checked the airbox to find a K&N drop-in.. I took it out when i installed my Airaid JR kit and also cleaned the MAF..PROBLEM SOLVED. since that day I have not had an issue
with an AFM there isnt much to break.. its just a little flap..it will let more dirt in without really giving you a warning sign.
The good news is you can probably replace that cone filter with an amsoil or trueflow of the same size.
the noise though..enjoy your new race truck?

89macrunner thanks for your comment! I agree, with the cam things are very different, very much better...and I do indeed enjoy my new 'race truck!" (grin)
"your engine going to run diffrently with the new cam. You might have more vaccum at idle and its popping past the AFM more"..
I agree, the idle is much different, but the lope holds so much more power, it's all positive, save the increased noice of the FIPK.
I am starting to get interested in alternatives to the K&N, can i still keep my ISR mod and yet replace the K&N filter, what alternatives exist
so both your dad's runner and your tacoma had issues with the K&N.
"The good news is you can probably replace that cone filter with an amsoil or trueflow of the same size".
does this mean that I can keep the K&N mount, and my ISR mod and throw a new filter in? I am all ears on how this would work. do I need to replace the stock air box? kind of hope not, but keeping an open mind.

Re: AMSOIL EaA Drop-In Air Filters are here.
"Does anyone know a part number for an Amsoil EaA cone filter that will fit on a K&N FIPK. I really dislike K&N's filter and cannot go back to stock because I don't have the time nor the money to purchase the stock intake assembly"...
---------
fits my thinking...and if there is an amsoil cone filter that will replace the K&N model RF-1009 from the FIPK
