Just Thinking, Pirate 4x4 is a rough place

I visit, like most of us, a lot of different toyota forums.... and those folks on pirate will flame your butt. it is pretty funny sometimes, but those poor newbies. YT is my home, and damn proud to say so. tortis

They have some awesome tech and some very knowledgeable dudes but you had best have thick skin and know WTF your talking about when you post over there. I just posted my first two theads after a year of lurking.

LOL, I thought the same thing. I didn't bother signing up there, because they flame everyone hardcore! I only have observed their immaturity there. I may ask stupid questions sometimes, but I don't need to be punched through the wall for it!

He he he he...
Years ago I posted what was the best paint and method to paint my newly acquired used Aisin manual hubs.

It took a week for my rump to start feeling better.

I've been mostly lurking on this forum and pirate.. and I have yet to post over there. YT is great because I get so much information and from some really smart guys. I go to Pirate and see a newb asking a question... I don't think he ever actually gets an answer.

I think it would be different if they flamed 'em and then answered... but I just see some flaming and then the thread never gets another post again.

You guys are great!

Pirate4x4's FAQ is amazing. A lot of the threads there are not needed because of most of the answers are in the FAQ. I can see why they need to get rude. That board is for hardcore off road tech. Not the "what size tires can I fit without a lift" board.

i think some people just ask stupid questions to get a rise out of them. i read some of those questions and i can just smell the charred flesh before i read the first response .

I think a lot of boards get multiple signups doing that just to cause trouble.
Pirate is a great board and chock full of info on building up a hardcore rig.

That is where I learned long time ago from a guy and his dad who built their own sliderz that were welded on, but removable.

They had a sleeve they slipped into, and then you ran bolts through the sleeves.
I had a local WA. state fabber do it the same way for me on my old rig.

If you pissed off some smart a$$ at Pirate, then you won. They appear to be hard core but that doesn't equate to brains. Billavista promotes his Canadian engineering degree and likes to entertain his audience with Junior year engineering equations. OK, guess that impresses some of the visitors. Personally, I visit out of curiosity and a wealth of information that may help me. But, I find most there petulant and arrogant. Fine with me, they can drown in their own runny noses. Yota tech is a much more family oriented place to shop.

It's Toyota, I love Pirate4x4. Lots of invaluable tech and tech folks there. Many of the folks have a false bravado in the open forum but in emails and PM stuff I have found most to be amicable, knowledgable and helpful.

It is definitely a different flavor Toyota forum.

there is a ton of info on pirate. and a ton of info here too. and the marlin boards.
i look at it like a classroom....some schools, you can lazily ask questions with answers right in front of you.... : .....and ppl just laugh. in other classrooms, they chuck erasers and spit wads at you!

different strokes for different folks.....but priceless tech there.
read the faq like 20 times before you ask up over there. then do search. chances are it's been addressed.
hate to see......

Please do not think I wanted this to be a bashing of Pirate or any other board. I find Pirate helpful, i just bought two transfer cases posted in their classifieds, and they do have a wealth of info over there. Wabbit is right about them being nice and prompt on the pm's and emails. It won't hurt my feelings if you want to remove this thread Corey. i don't want to start a forum war.
thanks, tortis
