i've got a crazy idea.
I have a 92 Runner with a 3.slow. I've had this idea for some time now and i'm wondering A: is it possible and B: would it be worth my time? This Runner that i have is originally from california it seems, and i'm a native of montana. i hate all the emissions crap that they add on cars in the first place, but california just seems to love adding more
. I was looking through my Jeg's magazine and they sell crate engines that are carborated, then they sell wiring harnesses and other stuff to turn you carborated motor into a very simple FI engine. The thing that i would like to do here is, rip every peice of emissions crap off of my 3.0 and rip everything off to the block and put in one of those simple FI setups just to make everything simpler and easier. Is it possible? or maybe even stick a carb on top of my 3.0.

you do know that the 3.0 is already fuel injected... right??
with that being said, its easy enouigh to take off all the smog crap... in most cases all you need to do is to block stuff off and re-route some vacuum lines...

I realize i can take all the smog crap off, however i would assume that in doing so it would throw all sorts of engine codes and possibly put it into limp mode which i don't want. I know that the 3.0 is already fuel injected, i just want to dumb down the computer and get rid of the stuff that chokes it. that's why i'm tossing around the idea of just throwing a carb on it. Stupid simple. that's what i'm going for.

It's OBD-I - it's as "dumbed down" as FI ECU's get already.
You can do a lot of work, hassle with a lot of codes, make a lot of bypass fixes, etc ... and it's still a 3.0. All the emissions "crap" isn't what "choking" the engine - it's the head and exhaust. Headers are reported to improve things a bit, but IMHO, the 3.0 is what it is - either accept that or swap in something else.

Check out the last couple pages of the Advanced Adapters Catalog They sell a sweet Vortec. I would like to run one in my 40, but that is down the road. Good luck be sure to post pics if you do decide to do the build
